The Auld Lang Syne Tartan was designed in 2002 to celebrate the birth of Robert Burns (1759-1796). Burns wrote the poem Auld Lang Syne in 1788 but it was not published until after his death. There is debate as to whether Burns penned the poem or adapted an older folk ballad. It has become tradition to sing Auld Lang at New Year’s Eve/Hogmanay celebrations.             Â
